About the opportunity
A global leader in independent third-party commissioning and consulting for mission-critical facilities is expanding its APAC delivery team. The organisation supports hyperscale, colocation and enterprise data centre programmes from design and construction through to testing, commissioning and operational readiness.
This is a high-visibility role leading commissioning delivery across multiple concurrent data centre projects in Sydney, with potential exposure to programmes across the broader APAC region.
Position summary
As Commissioning Manager, you will lead the end-to-end commissioning process for large-scale, high-availability data centre projects. You will be responsible for commissioning strategy, planning, coordination, reporting and handover, acting as a key interface between the client, design teams, contractors, vendors and site-based commissioning personnel.
The role requires strong technical grounding in electrical and mechanical systems, excellent stakeholder management, and proven experience managing commissioning on complex, fast-track, mission-critical builds.
Key responsibilities
- Lead commissioning delivery across multiple data centre projects, from design review through testing, turnover and project close-out.
- Develop and oversee commissioning plans, procedures, schedules and test documentation for mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
- Coordinate with client teams, consultants, contractors, equipment vendors and Commissioning Agents/Engineers to ensure aligned execution of the commissioning programme.
- Monitor commissioning progress against project milestones, identify risks or blockers early, and drive issue resolution through to completion.
- Lead commissioning meetings, chair progress reviews, and provide clear reporting on status, risks, defects, test completion and readiness for handover.
- Oversee quality and completeness of commissioning records, test packs, check sheets, scripts and final handover documentation.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with client standards, project specifications, safety requirements and mission-critical reliability expectations.
- Support and mentor site-based commissioning personnel while maintaining accountability for delivery quality, consistency and technical standards across the programme.
Skills and experience
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Proven experience in commissioning and project delivery within mission-critical or data centre environments (hyperscale, colocation or enterprise).
- Demonstrated ability to manage commissioning across multiple stakeholders, contractors, vendors and parallel workstreams on live or fast-track construction programmes.
- Strong technical understanding of key data centre systems, including LV/MV distribution, generators, UPS, cooling systems, HVAC plant, controls and BMS.
- Experience preparing, reviewing or managing commissioning documentation, test procedures, schedules and close-out deliverables.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and reporting capability, with confidence engaging both technical teams and senior client representatives.
- Ability to travel as required across project locations in Australia and the APAC region.
- Australian working rights required for this Sydney-based appointment.
