West Tennessee Healthcare

A public, not-for-profit healthcare system running 90 hospitals and medical centres across West Tennessee, anchored by a 642-bed tertiary hospital in Jackson.

West Tennessee Healthcare is a public, not-for-profit, self-supporting healthcare system serving communities across West Tennessee. Operating more than 7,000 employees and a network of 90 hospitals and medical centres, it provides a full continuum of care to more than half a million people across a 9,000-square-mile service area. The system has run for more than 70 years and does not draw on local tax revenues; all revenues are reinvested in care, technology and facilities.

Its anchor facility is Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, a 642-bed tertiary care centre - the only one between Memphis and Nashville - serving a 19-county area of rural West Tennessee. Around it sit six designated Centres of Excellence covering cardiovascular care, oncology, neuroscience and spine, women's health, emergency services and stroke care. The West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center treats more heart attacks than any other hospital in Tennessee, while the West Tennessee Women's Center delivers over 4,000 babies a year.

Technical capabilities span healthcare technology, tertiary and acute care, cardiovascular care, oncology, neuroscience and spine, neonatal intensive care, stroke care, emergency services and women's health. The system runs the region's only Joint Commission certified stroke centre and the region's only level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, and its Kirkland Cancer Center provides cancer care within the network. Delivery is organised around a team-based model, with services sited close to the communities they serve.
