Karman

Karman (formerly Utilidata) is an AI company using dynamic power orchestration to help data centres unlock more compute capacity from existing energy infrastructure.

Karman, formerly known as Utilidata, is an AI company that works on power management for data centres. Its business is the dynamic orchestration of electricity: using software and hardware to redistribute power in real time so that operators can extract more compute capacity from the energy infrastructure they already have. The company says it has more than a decade of experience applying AI to the electric grid, and its technical work spans real-time power-flow control, energy infrastructure optimisation and high-resolution grid visibility.

The company's main product, the Karman Platform, is built on a custom NVIDIA module and provides high-resolution visibility and ultra-fast control for AI data centres. In practice, it aims to identify capacity that is present in a facility or on the grid but not being used - so-called trapped capacity - and to optimise energy consumption accordingly. The approach is aimed at data centres as well as industrial facilities and power generation operators.

Karman is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and describes itself as fast-growing. It has announced partnerships with NexGen Cloud and Legrand, and has been publicly endorsed by NVIDIA's chief executive, Jensen Huang.
