The Data Center Technician III (L3) is a senior-level technical resource responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical data center infrastructure. This role provides advanced support for server, storage, networking, and GPU-based platforms while serving as an escalation point for complex technical issues. The L3 Technician works independently, leads operational activities, supports project deployments, and mentors junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Data Center Operations

  • Install, rack, stack, cable, and commission servers, storage systems, network devices, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Perform advanced hardware diagnostics, troubleshooting, and component replacement.
  • Execute break/fix activities on production systems while adhering to established SLAs.
  • Support data center migrations, expansions, and hardware lifecycle projects.
  • Perform server decommissioning, asset recovery, and secure hardware disposal processes.
  • Maintain accurate rack elevation diagrams, asset inventories, and deployment documentation.

Hardware & Infrastructure Support

  • Troubleshoot and replace components including: CPUs GPUs Memory Power supplies Motherboards NICs Storage devices Switches Cabling infrastructure
  • Support high-density compute, AI/ML, and GPU cluster environments.
  • Validate hardware health using monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Coordinate RMAs and vendor support engagements when required.

Network & Storage Support

  • Install and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Support ethernet, Fibre Channel, and InfiniBand environments.
  • Verify network connectivity and perform basic switch troubleshooting.
  • Assist with SAN, NAS, and storage cluster deployments.
  • Perform cable audits, trace work, labeling, and documentation updates.

Systems & Remote Management

  • Utilize remote management tools such as iLO, iDRAC, BMC, and KVM solutions.
  • Support Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Execute firmware, BIOS, and hardware upgrades.
  • Support operating system installations and recovery activities as needed.
  • Assist with cluster validation and infrastructure readiness testing.

Operational Excellence

  • Respond to incidents and escalations within established service levels.
  • Lead maintenance activities and change management implementations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours maintenance activities as required.
  • Mentor L1 and L2 technicians and provide technical guidance.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a data center, infrastructure, or hardware support environment.
  • Experience with rack-and-stack installations and structured cabling.
  • Strong server hardware troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Experience supporting enterprise storage and networking infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
  • Familiarity with data center power, cooling, and operational best practices.
  • Experience with ticketing and change management platforms (ServiceNow preferred).
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and work in raised-floor or data center environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting GPU-based infrastructure (NVIDIA preferred).
  • Experience with Kubernetes, virtualization, or cluster environments.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML or HPC infrastructure.
  • Experience with Fibre Channel, SAN, and InfiniBand technologies.
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Vendor certifications from Dell, HPE, Cisco, NVIDIA, VMware, or equivalent.
