Oracle Cloud Infrastructure continues to expand global data centre capacity at significant scale across key markets. We are seeking a Senior Data Centre Design Mechanical Engineer to join OCI’s growing data centre design organization. This role is part of the team responsible for defining, maintaining, and improving OCI’s mechanical design standards for colocation providers, developers, and delivery partners. The team serves as a centre of excellence for data centre design, supporting the compute, network, and storage infrastructure that enables OCI’s secure, resilient, and high-performance cloud services for some of the world’s largest enterprises. The successful candidate will be an experienced mechanical engineering subject matter expert with strong data centre design experience, the ability to work independently on complex technical issues, and the capability to influence internal teams, external partners, and delivery outcomes across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Centre Design Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  1. Design Ownership and Technical Leadership
Lead mechanical services design and engineering workstreams for data centre projects and strategic design initiatives. Provide technical direction to ensure designs meet OCI requirements for reliability, scalability, safety, maintainability, and operational excellence.
  2. Design Standards and Engineering Governance
Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of OCI mechanical services design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures. Review project documentation, design submissions, commissioning plans, and technical deliverables to ensure alignment with approved standards.
  3. Subject Matter Expertise
Serve as a mechanical engineering subject matter expert for data centre infrastructure systems, including cooling, ventilation, water systems, plant configuration, redundancy strategies, controls interfaces, and operational resilience. Apply expert knowledge to resolve complex and non-routine engineering issues.
  4. Partner and Colocation Provider Engagement
Work closely with colocation providers, developers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure mechanical systems are properly designed, specified, installed, commissioned, and capable of supporting OCI’s cloud infrastructure requirements.
  5. Complex Problem Solving
Independently analyse and resolve complex technical, design, and cross-functional issues. Develop recommendations for system-level improvements, risk mitigation, and design enhancements that reduce operational exposure and improve long-term performance.
  6. Project and Program Execution
Drive mechanical engineering deliverables across assigned projects or initiatives. Coordinate with internal and external project teams, track technical risks, support design reviews, and ensure engineering decisions are made with appropriate urgency, quality, and business context.
  7. Commissioning and Technical Assurance
Participate in design summits, technical workshops, commissioning reviews, site reviews, and readiness assessments. Validate that mechanical systems and associated infrastructure meet OCI’s design intent, performance expectations, and safety requirements.
  8. Contract and Commercial Support
Provide technical input to contract documents, scopes of work, change orders, cost forecasts, technical clarifications, and other project documentation. Support effective contract administration by ensuring mechanical requirements are clearly defined and technically sound.
  9. Safety and Operational Standards
Applies strong understanding of data center safety, maintainability, and operational requirements in mechanical design reviews and project delivery. Ensures mechanical systems are designed to support safe access, isolation, inspection, commissioning, maintenance, repair, replacement, and emergency response. Reviews partner and contractor proposals for alignment with Oracle safety expectations, site procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  10. Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
Mentor junior engineers and newer team members by sharing technical knowledge, reviewing work, and contributing to training materials. Support team capability growth through vendor engagement, industry participation, lessons learned, and internal technical guidance.
  11. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with electrical, controls, network, compute, operations, procurement, commercial, and construction teams to ensure integrated data centre solutions. Communicate clearly through technical writing, standards development, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
  12. Industry Engagement and Continuous Improvement
Maintain strong awareness of industry trends, vendor capabilities, emerging technologies, and best practices in data centre mechanical design. Lead or contribute to internal and external technical seminars, design reviews, and engineering forums.
