REWE Group

REWE Group is one of Europe's largest retail and tourism cooperatives, headquartered in Cologne and active in 21 countries. Founded in 1927 through the merger of 17 purchasing cooperatives, the group employs approximately 384,000 people and serves 12 million customers a day. It operates more than 3,800 stores in Germany alone, making its trading and logistics footprint one of the largest on the continent.

The group's business spans five segments. REWE supermarkets run food retail operations across Germany and Europe, including organic and sustainable product lines. PENNY covers the discount market, toom operates home improvement stores, BIPA runs specialty drugstores, and DERTOUR Group handles travel and tourism. This breadth of formats and geographies - food retail, discount, home improvement, drugstore and travel - means the group's systems support a varied and high-volume operating environment.

REWE Group is organised as a cooperative, with shared ownership and democratic governance central to its decision-making. It has pursued environmental targets including climate neutrality by 2040, and sources 100% of fresh meat in Austria from local suppliers under its Fair zum Tier animal welfare initiative.
