Scaleway

European sovereign cloud provider running its own datacenters and infrastructure - bare metal, AI GPU clusters and multi-cloud tools - powered by renewable energy with a PUE of 1.15.

Scaleway is a European sovereign cloud provider that designs and operates its own infrastructure, from bare metal servers to AI GPU clusters. Founded in 1999 with the Dedibox dedicated server line, the company today offers a complete cloud ecosystem spanning dedicated physical servers, cloud-native infrastructure, GPU compute for AI workloads, and native tools for multi-AZ redundancy and multi-cloud architecture. It employs more than 550 cloud engineers and serves 38,000 customers across 160 countries.

For datacenter professionals, the operational profile is notable. Scaleway reports a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15, which it describes as the lowest in Europe, and powers its datacenters solely with renewable energy. Data sovereignty, sustainability and simplicity are stated design principles for the infrastructure, alongside a developer-first approach to the products built on top of it. The engineering culture is hands-on: engineers ship and maintain production infrastructure on a daily basis.

The company is part of the Iliad Group, which has committed €3 billion to its AI future - investment directed at AI infrastructure including GPU clusters. Scaleway's customer base ranges from startups such as Photoroom and Mistral AI to institutions including the European Central Bank. Its market position is that of a European challenger to hyperscale providers, with operations concentrated in Europe and customers worldwide.
